Do you have regrets or fears about growing older? The results of my survey have revealed that many women in their 3rd stage of life are ready to travel, hang out with their grandkids and be more spontaneous in their lives. I believe aging is a state of mind. Our minds are so powerful. If we tell ourselves that there is so much more to come, in whatever way that feels right, then we become pulled forward into our dream or vision of what’s next.
I’m in my 3rd stage of life and believe the best is yet to come. Why? Because I don’t have to pretend to be someone I’m not anymore. I have the space within me to expand and grow and become – whoever I want to be at this stage of my life. I felt like, after 50, I let go of a lot of ideas about ‘keeping up’ or needing to look or be a certain way.
When we think about aging, we tend to think about some age a decade or two further along than we are. We are all aging, from birth to death.
At some point, though, we cross an invisible line that takes us from young to old. Where this point is, for each of us, is affected by our beliefs and our inner feelings about getting older. Our society values youth and who wouldn’t – we are our most beautiful, have the most energy and activities of life come easy for us (at least that’s how we like to remember it). The reality is that our adulthood and elderhood are the longest part of our lives.
Are you open to accepting and appreciating the aging process? Many of us see only decline in later life; however, there are many benefits to growing older. This is where we fully come into who we are.
Are you willing to be in charge of how you age? How can you take charge so your aging process is something to appreciate and not dread? The only thing we have any control over are our thoughts, beliefs and ideas of who we are, what we are capable of and how we take care of ourselves throughout our lives. We will all get older unless we do not have the opportunity to do so. Happily, there are many ways to support ourselves to have a great quality of life as we continue to develop and expand ourselves right to the end. Thankfully, it’s never too late to change.
