The definition of attitude is “a settled way of thinking or feeling about someone or something, typically one that is reflected in a person’s behavior.” What if your current attitude about yourself and what you are capable of, shifted from the past, where everything seems fixed in old beliefs, thoughts and feelings, to a new attitude of acceptance, acknowledgement and possibility?
As women, we often forget that we have more personal power than we think we do. This is because of the ideas and beliefs we internalized as small children and then reinforced as we grew up and became adults.
Have you been “discounting yourself?” By that I mean, you’ve accomplished many things in your life but you don’t give these much attention. In fact, you may have forgotten about many of them AND who you had to be to accomplish those things.
What does “discounting yourself” look like? Someone might ask you about the things you’ve accomplished or done in your life and as you tell them, they respond with “WOW, that’s really something!” You might be a little puzzled because you never really thought about it that way. You might say something like, “Look, if I can do it, anyone can do it.”
The fact is that, it’s NOT true! We must own our accomplishments in work, homelife, career, volunteering, creativity and more. When we discount or minimize our accomplishments, we drain away our own personal power.
We take our achievements and accomplishments for granted because we’ve already done them. What we often don’t acknowledge is the appreciation and gratitude for what we’ve done in our lives.
Even mistakes made, while considered negative, are not. You must acknowledge your courage, strength, determination, ability to survive, to move on, to let go, release negativity and to invite more goodness and joy into your life. These are life skills that serve you and everyone connected to you.
Appreciate how these life experiences have made you the strong person you are today and what you’ve learned through the process.
